The Algorithm
Guidelines of how the algorithm works
Before diving into the specifics of the algorithm, it’s essential to understand that Dawnshard was designed with meticulous rules regarding the effects and values of the cards. This foundation ensures perfect balance within the game.
Procedural Algorithm
The algorithm is crafted with three primary goals: balance, uniqueness, and fun. Let’s explore these aspects:
Balance: Each deck contains a well-rounded mix of different card types, including creatures, spells, and artifacts. This variety ensures that players always have multiple options available during gameplay.
Uniqueness: Every deck has a distinct playstyle, which keeps the game fresh and engaging. This diversity prevents players from experiencing repetitive matches, maintaining excitement and interest.
Fun: The combination of balanced and unique decks creates a dynamic gameplay experience. Players must continuously adapt to new challenges and opponents, making each match a unique adventure.
Whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer, you’ll find the decks both challenging and enjoyable.
How the Algorithm Works
Each deck is assigned a Rating, indicated by a numeric value that represents its strength. This value is derived from:
The sum of the SERC (Strength, Efficiency, Resilience, Control) of each card
The cumulative synergies and anti-synergies within the deck
Specific exceptions and rules applied to certain cards
Synergies and Anti-Synergies:
Synergy: A combination of two cards that generates an effect stronger than their individual effects.
Anti-Synergy: A combination of two cards that results in an effect weaker than their individual effects.
Traits:
Traits are tags that describe a card's effects and are used to identify synergies and anti-synergies. There’s no limit to the number of traits a card can have. Each synergy has one or more traits it can combine with, and these traits can have varying strengths: Weak, Normal, or Strong.
The strength of traits and synergies influences the card’s potential rating, thus affecting the overall strength of a deck.
Exceptions:
Certain cards may be restricted from being included in specific decks to maintain balance and coherence within the gameplay. This is made to prevent broken combos that may loop and create invincible effects.
